The Career Development Program places a new employee on a structured career path with the ultimate goal of preparing this individual for a sales role within the organization. Through intensive training in the Warehouse, Delivery, Merchandising and Sales departments, this individual will be given the necessary skills and knowledge to become a successful Sales Assistant.

Position Schedule

Schedule will vary dependent on assignment. 

Responsibilities

Warehouse (3 months)

  • Ability to identify all product by product code number
  • Identify all shelf-life code problems and alert warehouse supervisors on a timely basis
  • Ability to operate a forklift and/or electronic pallet jack safely (training will be provided)
  • Learn and follow proper procedures for handling all types of product breakage
  • Complete safety and operation checklist for forklift, pallet jack and electric floor scrubber as scheduled
  • Exceeds the minimum 200 cases per hour pick rate when working in an order building role

Delivery (3 months)

  • Functioning as a delivery assistant, employee will ensure all products are delivered as ordered
  • All CPR and Out-of-Code beer must be processed as requested by the salesperson
  • Maintain customer satisfaction at all times
  • Rotate all products on a “first in – first out” system paying close attention to the “born on date” system or other designated supplier established quality date format
  • Check dead spots in all coolers
  • All settlement procedures must be followed daily

Merchandising (3 months)

  • Completely replenish inventory levels located in the cooler, End Caps, Displays and other areas where BDC products may be located
  • Maintain product freshness guidelines as instructed. Inform supervisor of any close coded product in the market so appropriate action can be taken
  • Assist sales department with placing strategic POS and display building as needed
  • Establish and maintain a positive first name relationship with the customer, to include knowing the name of key management personnel at store level

Sales (3 months)

  • Functioning as a sales assistant, maximize distribution of all brands and packages as determined by Sales Department Manager
  • Secure the best possible selling position for our products in each account. (Including primary displays, secondary displays, coolers, etc….)
  • Maximize permanent, temporary, and promotional secondary displays as determined by Manager
  • Sell-in and execute all authorized promotions
  • Sell sufficient product inventory to eliminate out-of-stock situations
  • Maintain and increase shelf facings for all BDC products
  • Rotate products in all areas (coolers, backrooms, displays, and warm shelf)
  • Maintain compliance with Brown Distributing Co.’s CPR and out of code policies
  • Utilize Point-Of-Sale materials to stimulate sales (neon’s, modules, paper, etc.)
  • Call on each account as scheduled, each day without fail
  • Create, develop, and maintain professional working relationship in every account
  • Follow-up on all business commitments to your customers
  • Service all customer requests in a timely manner

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 6 months of prior sales experience, customer service experience, and completed college coursework in sales, marketing or business program
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Wine and Spirits Sales License
  • Valid Florida driver’s license is required
